Polar Bear Mum to Ken Salazar: We know why you and that lawyer in the White House hate our guts.  But, what if we moved to the White House and butt-kicked the lot of you to Alaska?"

San Diego Zoo Wants You To Help Polar Bears and Giant Pandas.

Friday, 17 July 2009 17:11 by Tamara

Animal SOS

Many of the world’s animal species are barely making it in their wild habitats these days, including two of our most popular bears: giant pandas and polar bears.

Giant pandas are facing forest and bamboo patch destruction and global warming is melting the arctic ice floes that polar bears depend on for survival. If you feel stuck in the hibernation mode and don’t know what to do about it, here’s an easy way you can help protect these beloved bruins.

Your Own Animal SOS Page

You can create your own Animal SOS page on the San Diego Zoo’s Web site to let family and friends know how concerned you are about bears AND to raise money that will help the Zoo protect and save them! Instead of receiving gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, or other special occasions, you can collect donations for giant panda or polar bear conservation. Or, perhaps your fundraising efforts will be in honor of a special person in your life.

Polar Bear Attack.

Polar Bear Attacks Woman in Berlin Zoo

Woman Jumped Into Polar Bears' Enclosure During Feeding Time

After long, panicked seconds in the bears' moat with one of the massive animals biting at her backside, the woman was eventually pulled to safety and treated for severe injuries.

"What she's done here, she should thank the good Lord she's alive," Jack Hanna, director emeritus at the Columbus Zoo in Ohio, told "Good Morning America." "It's amazing to me."

Video Captures Polar Bear Attack

A video of the incident shows the woman thrashing in the bears' moat and attempting to grab life preservers and ropes thrown by would-be rescuers while one of the bears repeatedly bites her rear end.

-------

Wow that is something you don't hear about everyday. Well, at least I don't.

Oh my goodness I have been gone for a million years. Sorry about that just moving and trying to get settled. I hope to get back on track again to keep you posted on the beautiful animal, the Polar Bear. I hope that everyone will still enjoy.

Polar Bear, Flocke Has A New Friend

Wednesday, 21 January 2009 21:58 by Tamara
Celebrity polar bear Flocke has a new companion, the AP reports. The Nuremberg Zoo's resident superstar was a little tense upon meeting the unnamed 1-year-old Russian polar bear, but the two soon teamed up for some joyous romping. The new bear arrived from Moscow in late December and will remain in Nuremberg for about a year.

After the Russian bear’s stint, he’s off to a new home in Madrid. Zookeepers said they were pleased with Flocke’s very polar bear-like behavior; she, like Germany’s other star bear Knut, was raised by humans after her mother rejected her. But her quick socialization with the transplant shows she hasn’t lost her ursine essence.

The World's Favorite Polar Bear Leaves

Friday, 12 December 2008 21:45 by Tamara

(Newser) – The world's favorite polar bear may be bidding auf wiedersehen to the Berlin Zoo. Cuddly tourist attraction Knut actually belongs to the north German zoo his father came from, and a move is expected in the first half of 2009. "We entered into a contract which stated that the first surviving cub is owned by Neumuenster Zoo," said the Berlin Zoo's director. But Berlin officials want to keep Knut—and the extra $6.3 million he pulled in last year, the BBC reports.

A Polar Bear For Christmas!

Friday, 14 November 2008 20:51 by Tamara

Oh my goodness this polar bear is sooo cute. I want one for Christmas. So I can cuddle him and call him mine!

Okay so I was reading some stories about polar bears and I came across this one where a polar bear fell into the moat at the Milwaukee Zoo and no one helped Zero out of it until two weeks later. Seems kinda sad that the poor Zero was stuck in a ditch basically and no one thought to get him out until two weeks later?!?!? You think they would love to be the hero to Zero! ::Wink Wink::

Enjoy, Tamara

Polar Bear Rule Prompts Suit

Sunday, 5 October 2008 21:31 by Tamara

"The groups say the three words -- which they refer to as The Alaska Gap -- are unlawful and run counter to the administration's belief that it is impossible to link emissions from a single project to the increasing temperatures that threaten the polar bear."

Tell me your thoughts.

Polar Bears and Sharks don't mix.

Friday, 19 September 2008 18:52 by Tamara
"~   As if polar bears in the North Pole didn't have enough to worry about these days: Scientists have found the bone of a young bear in the stomach of a Greenland   shark, Reuters reports. The unprecedented discovery prompts a "million dollar question," says one researcher: Do the bears now have to worry about sharks as predators? It seems improbable that the sluggish shark could catch and kill a bear, but the possibility raises intriguing questions.

As polar bears lose their habitat to warming waters, researchers sculate that they will have to spend more time in the water and thus be vulnerable to sharks. Others say the bone probably came from a scavenged carcass. "The Greenland shark simply cannot afford the risk of injury nor the expenditure of energy required to kill such a large and dangerous animal,” says one expert. "There is far easier prey to be found."   ~"

I personally don't think a shark is that stupid, but you never know. It does make sense that a polar bear could get attacked by a shark. Just one more thing to add to the struggling polar bears.
